The 1st Generation BMW Water Pump Removal Tool
This is the prototype BMW water pump removal tool that my Dad (the machnist) first designed and built to remove the water pump from my 1995 BMW 318i.
It has since then been "retired" and replaced by the much improved 2nd generation BMW water pump removal tool below. The original prototype was built from solid steel with fixed clamps to grip onto the water pump front flange. It also included the detached square blocks that would sit between the engine block and the side extraction screws.
The 2nd Generation BMW Water Pump Removal Tool
This is our latest BMW water pump removal tool and the one which is currently sold via our website. It is much improved from the 1st generation tool. The 2nd generation tool includes the following significant improvements:
1) It is now made from solid aluminum (versus solid steel) which makes it lighter and less prone to rusting
2) Previously, the clamps which grip to the front flange of the water pump were fixed, but now they are adjustable to possibly accomodate other water pumps with smaller/larger flanges.
3) And, finally, the tool now has round plates attached to the side extraction screws rather than detached square blocks.
